William Harris was born to the late Jimmy Harris and Lula Mae Hargrove-Harris on October 1, 1940 in Mobile, Alabama. The Harris family later moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama where William attended Druid High School. William worked at The University of Alabama prior to his move to Boston, MA in 1968. He then secured a job at Boston University.

Following his employment at Boston University, William then began to work for the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) up until his retirement in 2005. In the interim, William Harris joined the Moses Lodge #10 under the jurisdiction of The Most Worshipful George Washington Carver Grande Lodge A.F. & A.M. as a Master Mason in the early 90's.
He is preceded in death by his sisters Dora Harris, Bernice Henderson, Darnell Harris, and son William Wysinger.
William Harris is survived by his children, Sandra Wells (Tuscaloosa, AL), Frederick Goodson (New Orleans, LA), Theria Wysinger (Queens, NY), his sisters Dorothy Harris-McNeal (Willie), and Geraldine Harris of Tuscaloosa, AL, as well as a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
