Obituary

Born Kenneth McCoy Farmer in the South, Rocky Mount, North Carolina, February 7, 1960, to the late William D. and Lillian B. Farmer, he was nicknamed Kent by his family. He relocated in the North, Boston, Massachusetts, with his family in 1966.

Family members when he moved to Boston included his father, mother, himself and seven (7) siblings, four (4) boys and three (3) girls. Kent was the seventh child. Two more girls were added to the family in Boston.

Kent enrolled in the William Lloyd Garrison Elementary School in Roxbury upon his arrival in Boston. It was to be his first year of school. He did not complete school but went on to get a Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Education High School Equivalency Certificate at some later point in his life. He worked in food services and final cleaning after construction during his lifetime.

Kent was not a member of a church nor did he regularly attend one, but no one ever knew that when he was at a church service, because he was as active and involved as any of the regular worshipers and members. He song group spirituals as well as solo, joined in verse recital led by the pastor/minister and testified. He had the singing voice of a professional musical artist. It just put the listener in that place that he or she wanted to be in.

Yes, Kent was some type of character, a very fun-loving, sociable person, always smiling. He seemed to like people, and people appeared to find him likable. His wife, Lorraine, who affectionately calls him “Dark Tanning,” a very handsome and smooth man, says he had the gift of the gab and could talk a dog off a meat truck.

Kent has two sisters and three brothers resting in peace: Frances J. Skinner, Shirelle F. Farmer, Willie Jr. Farmer, Earnest Farmer and Dennis E. Farmer

Kent leaves to cherish his memories three sisters, one brother and a wife: Barbara McNeil, Scheena Farmer, Shekela Farmer, Sharif Shärif (AKA Charles Farmer), Lorraine Harris and a host of relatives and friends
