Joyce Mae Winn entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 9, 2019 at The Boston Medical Center in Boston Mass.

She was the beloved daughter of the late George and Mamie Winn. As a child growing up in Gold Dust, Louisiana, Joyce enjoyed an adventurous childhood when spending time with her parents, siblings and family members. Prior to school integration, Joyce attended George Washington Carver High School in Bunkie, La. In 1974 she graduated from Bunkie High School.

Joyce accepted Jesus Christ at a very early age and was baptized by the late Rev. Hezekiah Dixon of the Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, Gold Dust, La. Joyce remained a faithful member until she relocated to Boston, Mass in 1975. While living in Boston she became a member of the Morning Star Baptist Church in Mattapan, Mass. Joyce’s industrious, professional career included employment at Jordan Marsh, The Boston Globe, Sears, and Bank of America.

For many years she was a loyal companion to the late William Henry of Boston, Mass. Through this union a wonderful and beloved son was born. William Winn of Boston, Massachusetts has been left to mourn the passing of his dear mother.

Joyce leaves to mourn her sisters Bertha Blick and Jeanette Winn of Boston Mass., Susie Williams (Burvell) of Marietta, Georgia, Rose Dobbins (Bernard) of Evergreen, Louisiana, and her brother, George (Barbara) Winn of Opelousas, Louisiana. Joyce will be deeply missed by the family of the late William Henry; Charlene Henry of Boston, Cheryl Henry of Milton, Charon Bowden of Atlanta, Shawn Bowden of Dallas and Paisley Murray of Milton.

Joyce was also sister to her late siblings Burnell Winn of New Orleans, George Winn Jr. (Mae) of Tampa, Fl., Rosa Lee Brown of Boston, Mass., Leon and Leo Winn (twins) of Boston, Mass., George Winn of Harlem, New York, and Eloise Merrick of Port Arthur, Texas. She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and acquaintances.

We are so sorry for your loss. Joyce was a wonderful and kind person. For the past ten and half years we always enjoyed seeing Joyce at the Grove Hall Branch Library. She always had a smile and some friendly words for us. We will really miss her.
Paul and the staff at the library.
